The Awareness Movement (AWM), a partner of the RAIDO Project, works to promote sustainable development and strengthen the connection between technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and civil society. Within RAIDO, AWM contributes to connecting the project’s digital innovations with civil society, grassroots communities, and real-world environmental objectives.
Recently, AWM Vice President, Mrs. Lanika Angelidou, represented the organisation at the “Climate Justice Forum: From Dialogue to Policy Action,” organised by Friends of the Earth Cyprus, which took place on 12 June 2026 in Limassol. The forum provided an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on some of the most pressing environmental and energy-related challenges facing Cyprus today.
Climate justice, the core theme of the forum, emphasises that the transition to a sustainable economy must be fair, collaborative, and inclusive. Key sessions explored the current energy landscape, its associated challenges, and emerging opportunities linked to the development of energy communities and active citizen participation in the energy transition.
During the networking sessions, AWM had the opportunity to highlight how advanced digital frameworks such as RAIDO can contribute to addressing environmental and energy-related challenges.
The discussions at the forum regarding the local energy landscape and citizen participation tie directly into one of RAIDO’s core pilots: the Energy Grid Domain Pilot (Power & Energy Grid Management for AI-enabled Optimal Planning). This specific pilot aims to improve energy grid management using AI-enabled optimal planning, directly addressing the complexities and planning challenges introduced by renewable energy sources. The pilot utilizes big data collected from sensors, devices, and appliances to train predictive models and optimize them using the RAIDO platform. By interconnecting power plants, power grids, and smart homes through Digital Twins and simulated data, this framework creates a more stable, efficient, and smarter energy infrastructure. For civil society and local energy communities, such technologies can support the transition to renewable energy through more transparent, optimised, and trustworthy data handling, while helping to minimise energy waste and improve grid reliability.
A major takeaway from the forum is that sustainable decision-making requires robust, unbiased, and transparent data handling. RAIDO contributes to addressing this need by applying Explainable AI (XAI) methods, feedback-based reinforcement learning, and advanced visualisation techniques to support the development of AI models that are more transparent and trustworthy. For civil society, this transparency is important in helping to ensure that technological advancements in energy infrastructure serve the public interest.
