Role in RAIDO
VITO contributes significantly to the RAIDO project by spearheading advancements in privacy-compliant AI development and ensuring robust data governance, all while aligning with European and national regulations. Key activities include the creation of comprehensive guidelines for responsible data use and the critical evaluation of the scientific reusability of personal data. VITO is also at the forefront of exploring innovative approaches such as synthetic data generation and the application of digital twins to support ethical and privacy-preserving AI, thereby enabling advanced research without compromising individual privacy.
In the healthcare domain within RAIDO, VITO is developing a state-of-the-art AI-powered pharmacogenomics (PGx) system. This system utilizes advanced large language models to interpret complex PGx reports, whole genome sequencing data, and existing clinical guidelines. The primary objective of this system is to substantially enhance drug selection processes, leading to more effective and personalized treatments, improve overall patient safety by predicting potential adverse drug reactions, and make intricate genomic insights more accessible and actionable for healthcare professionals. By integrating RAIDO’s specialized features for explainability, bias detection, and continuous monitoring, VITO’s PGx use case serves as a compelling demonstration of the tangible benefits that trustworthy AI can bring to personalized medicine.
