RAIDO MARCH 2025 NEWSLETTER.
Welcome to the RAIDO Project’s March newsletter! This issue summarizes our key activities, achievements, and upcoming plans for March 2025 and beyond.
SUMMARY
March 2025 represents a period of significant momentum for the RAIDO project as we continue advancing toward critical milestone deliverables and maintain active engagement within the European AI research ecosystem. Our consortium has successfully maintained regular coordination activities with two monthly online General Assembly meetings, while making substantial progress across all work packages toward the upcoming Milestone 3 deliverable.
We are pleased to report the publication of our research on sustainable development applications in AI, demonstrating RAIDO’s commitment to addressing real-world societal challenges through trustworthy AI solutions. The project continues to strengthen collaborative relationships through clustering activities and prepares for important upcoming events that will showcase RAIDO capabilities to the broader research community.
EVENTS
The RAIDO project is actively preparing for participation in the “ICTP/ITU/IRCAI TinyML Workshop in Malawi” scheduled for March 30 – April 4, 2025 [TinyML]. This international workshop represents a significant opportunity to showcase RAIDO’s energy-efficient AI methodologies in resource-constrained environments, aligning perfectly with our commitment to developing sustainable AI solutions that can be deployed across diverse global contexts.
The workshop focuses on TinyML (Tiny Machine Learning) applications, which complement RAIDO’s energy-efficient AI optimization objectives by exploring how machine learning can be implemented on resource-constrained devices. This participation will provide valuable insights into deploying AI solutions in developing regions, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive and sustainable AI development that addresses global challenges.
Additionally, the team is finalizing preparations for the upcoming Plenary Florence meeting scheduled for April 8-10, 2025, which will bring together all consortium partners for comprehensive project review, strategic planning, and coordination of upcoming project phases. This event will serve as a critical coordination point for all work packages and provide opportunities for intensive collaboration planning.
PUBLICATIONS
Our research team has made a significant contribution to the scientific literature with the publication of OBSERVING THE IMPACT OF AI IN THE PROGRESS OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 11 [link TBD] at the e-Society Conference in Madeira, Portugal, during 1-3 March 2025. This research demonstrates RAIDO’s commitment to understanding and enhancing AI’s role in achieving sustainable development goals.

The work exemplifies how advanced AI methodologies can be applied responsibly to monitor and accelerate progress toward global sustainability objectives, showcasing practical applications of our trustworthy AI frameworks in addressing critical societal challenges. This publication reinforces RAIDO’s position at the forefront of responsible AI development that creates positive social impact while maintaining the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
PROJECT MILESTONES & DELIVERABLES
The project has made substantial progress toward Milestone 3 (D4.1), which encompasses the “Availability of initial version of the data augmentation, model optimisation and XAI methods” across WP3, WP4, and WP5. This milestone represents a critical convergence of technical achievements across multiple work packages, demonstrating the integrated nature of RAIDO’s approach to trustworthy AI development.
The advancement toward this milestone includes significant development in data augmentation techniques using synthetic data generation and advanced preprocessing methodologies, comprehensive progress in energy-efficient model optimization that reduces computational overhead while maintaining performance standards, and substantial development of explainable AI methods that ensure transparency and interpretability in AI decision-making processes.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
The immediate future holds several critical activities that will shape the project’s trajectory for the remainder of 2025. The Florence Plenary meeting scheduled for April 8-10, 2025, represents a major coordination milestone where all consortium partners will convene for comprehensive project review, strategic planning, and intensive collaboration sessions. This event will provide opportunities for detailed technical discussions, milestone completion planning, and preparation for upcoming pilot implementation phases.
The conclusion of the ICTP/ITU/IRCAI TinyML Workshop in Malawi (March 30 – April 4, 2025) will provide valuable international exposure and opportunities to explore RAIDO methodologies in resource-constrained environments, potentially opening new avenues for global impact and collaboration.
Completion of Milestone 3 (D4.1) in the coming months will mark a significant technical achievement, delivering initial versions of data augmentation, model optimization, and XAI methods that form the core of RAIDO’s technological contributions. This milestone completion will enable the transition toward comprehensive pilot implementation phases and real-world validation of RAIDO capabilities.
Research focus areas for the upcoming period include continued refinement of energy-efficient AI optimization techniques, enhancement of explainable AI frameworks for improved transparency and accountability, and comprehensive preparation for pilot deployment activities that will demonstrate RAIDO’s practical impact across various application domains.
